‘The Smurfs 2’ Movie Review

Smurfs Twit pic

The little blue people are back! Nostalgic to anyone that watched the cartoon years ago on television. The Smurfs are a fave of mine and smurfed up to my expectation in this sequel. The Smurfs and the human characters had good chemistry as before. Azarel, Gargamel’s cat is a leading character in this movie…he’s funny and steals scenes. I enjoyed the addition of the two new characters Vexy and Hackus. Worth checking out this Summer with the little ones or the young at heart. I saw it in 3D and thought it was smurfy, lol (good).

‘Fruitvale Station’ Movie Review

FruitVale Stat Banner

This is the first film this year that is Oscar worthy! This independent film and a stellar acting performance from Michael B. Jordan (Oscar Grant) have potential for Oscar nominations (in my opinion). This is a true story of the last day of Oscar Grant’s Life. This is a solid film that is powerful; emotional; and a MUST-SEE film. Ariana Neal portrays Oscar’s daughter, Tatiana, and also delivers a great acting performance. Great casting all around for this film. ‘Fruitvale Station’ opened two weeks ago in a few cities across the country…today 7/26 is the national opening date. PLEASE support this film by going to the theatre and making sure your ticket says ‘Fruitvale Station’.

‘The Wolverine’ Movie Review

wolverine banner

I’m probably going against the grain with this one yet I enjoyed ‘The Wolverine’. It’s another comic book adapted to a movie and Marvel scores again. The storyline is a little slow to develop yet the action and interaction of all the new characters makes up for that. Wolverine shows off a lot of his body 🙂 I did see it in 3D and it was pretty good. Don’t forget to stay for the END CREDIT SCENE…quite nostalgic for this character. Summer time popcorn movie worth checking out.

‘The To Do List’ Movie Review

the to do list

This is a sexual revolution coming of age movie that is very raunchy with gross humor. The age demographic for this movie in my opinion is 18-21 (anyone over that age should find it ridiculous; teenagers under 18 would probably enjoy it yet legally they shouldn’t be allowed to see it, lol). I only enjoyed the music of the 90’s played throughout the movie.

‘Red 2’ Movie Review

red-2-banner-5

I found this film to be just as exciting as the original. So much fun going on, on the screen with all the humor we’d expect. This fabulous ensemble cast (less one from the original) join up again to take us on a ride. Helen Mirren’s character, Victoria is my fave and she doesn’t disappoint this go round either. Byung-hun Lee is a great add with all his martial arts skills. Entertaining and a must-see Summer time popcorn movie. Also, this is one of two new movies that Mary-Louise Parker is co-starring in this weekend (the other is R.I.P.D.).

‘R.I.P.D.’ Movie Review

ripd

I didn’t know what to expect, therefore, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a decent Summer time popcorn movie. The storyline totally reminded me of M.I.B. Jeff Bridges definitely carries the movie and he’s pretty funny. This is the 2nd of two new movies that Ryan Reynolds is starring in this weekend (‘Turbo’ is the other). Jeff and Ryan’s characters (Roy and Nick) are policemen of sorts returning deado’s to face justice and go to their earned eternity place of residence. Roy & Nick don’t appear on Earth as they looked in their previous lives; their new bodies are hilarious. I wasn’t aware Kevin Bacon (I’m a fan of his) was in the movie until he popped up; good casting. Overall, entertaining. I saw it in 3D and thought it was pretty good. Also, this is the 2nd of two new movies that Mary-Louise Parker is co-starring in this weekend.

‘Girl Most Likely’ Movie Review

gml b

There’s a pretty good ensemble cast here with a storyline that’s weak yet there are poignant moments and a few laugh out loud scenes. Kristen Wiig stars as Imogene the lead character who is facing a transition in her life and doesn’t want to deal with it the mature way. Her way of handling things leads her back to her childhood home. Enjoy the old school music scene.

‘Turbo’ Movie Review

TURBO-Banner

Really cute animated movie that the entire family will enjoy. Funny how several of the snails look like their human celebrity actor, lol. Showing in 3D yet I saw it in 2D and it was great (gorgeous colors). This is the animated version of ‘Fast & Furious’, lol (Michelle Rodriguez is one of the voices). This is one of two new movies that Ryan Reynolds (he’s the voice of Turbo) is starring in this weekend. Nice homage to the Jackson 5. Opened on Wed. 7/17

‘Pacific Rim’ Movie Review

Pacific Rim banner pic

If you loved old-school Godzilla and new-school Transformers movies, then you will find this movie entertaining. I felt like there was a meshing of the two movies with futuristic Godzilla type monsters (Kaiju) fighting what looks likes Transformers (Jaegers). The storyline isn’t a good one yet the fight scenes with the Kaiju and the Jaegers were really good. I did see it in 3-D on a screen comparable to IMAX. If you can upgrade to full screen lushness, do so. Also, there is an end credit scene…don’t leave the theatre too fast.

‘Grown Ups 2’ Movie Review

Grown Ups 2 poster banner pic

Some people say sequels don’t live up to the original film…NOT in this case! I so enjoyed this sequel; I didn’t think the first movie was that funny. Well the gang (great ensemble cast) is back and the laughs are from beginning to end…”laugh out loud” funny; Shaq is a good add and blended with the cast well. Really funny homage to the 80’s. The movie is PG-13 yet some lines are borderline for that age and there is gross humor. Patrick Schwarzenegger and Adam Sandler’s daughters have small roles.
