‘Sabotage’ Movie Review

Sabatoge banner

The Arnold is doing what he does best in this movie…holding a gun and shooting it, lol. The storyline is not deep and I’m sure not meant to be. Very gory with torture scenes. Pretty good ensemble cast yet most of the movie is about Arnold’s character. If you’re an action/shoot em-up bang bang movie fan, you’ll like this one.

‘Noah’ Movie Review

Noah

Hollywood e.g. Darren Aronofsky did a doozie depiction on a biblical story…and I mean that totally in a bad way. I figured they wouldn’t follow the story as it is told in the Bible yet I thought it would be close enough. The storyline combines at least three different parables of the Bible that happened at different times. There are these “weird” rock creatures that reminded me of Transformers and the mountain giants from the 1st Hobbit movie. Had this movie not attempted to be a depiction of a bible story it may have been okay yet still not good. This is a fictional/fantasy story. This movie isn’t worth spending your money on or wasting your time.

‘Divergent’ Movie Review

div

I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy the acting and storyline (quite similar to ‘Hunger Games’). The cast is loaded with talent and fresh faces that will prove to be known after this film. Shailene Woodley leads the cast as Tris and has a love interest in, Four (Theo James). Jai Courtney, makes a good presence as Eric as he and Four build their angers toward one another. I haven’t read the books (three which could end up being four films) yet I found the storyline easy to follow (you just may need to Google and learn your factions, lol). If you enjoy sci-fi/action films then you will enjoy this one. 2014 popcorn movies have returned to the big screen!

‘The Single Moms Club’ Movie Review

Single Moms Club banner

This movie has the potential to be a sequel and a first-ever trilogy (of the same title) for Tyler Perry yet he drops the ball in his writing and directing. The storyline is mediocre and needed more development especially for seasoned actress, Nia Long who co-stars in the film (along with her son Massai Z. Dorsey who portrays her son in the movie). Cocoa Brown and Terry Crew’s characters give us the comedy when it’s needed. There’s a poignant scene in the film that I loved…having a support team/girlfriends/social club to have your back in the good and the bad. No matter how strong a woman is, there are times when she needs to “hear” this from her friends. I would like to see a sequel to this title with a better storyline. I also thought there were too many long pauses in the movie that reminded me of Tyler’s ‘Haves/Have Not’ soap-opera drama series (which I do like).

‘Need For Speed’ Movie Review

Fast cars, mediocre storyline, 3D if you want, and great views of Downtown Detroit are what you’ll find in ‘Need For Speed’. Don’t expect a replica of the Fast/Furious movies yet you will be entertained with the fast cars.

‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ Movie Review

peabody

Mr. Peabody and his adopted son, Sherman hurtle back in time to experience world-changing events first-hand and interact with some of the greatest characters of all time. I totally do not remember the television series yet I really enjoyed this old school revamp animated film. The screen is lush in color and laughs for all ages. I did see in 3D and it was pretty good. I’m sure this will be a nostalgic adventure for many, enjoy!

‘300: Rise of an Empire’ Movie Review

300 Banner

Once again ‘300’ brings it with lots of gory fighting scenes. I’m a fan of the original film which really launched Gerald Butler’s career. Because his character died in the original film he didn’t seek nor want the sequel to try and reprise his character. Answers to how a couple characters in the original film came to be are answered in the sequel. There’s a new strong character introduced named, Artemisia, that holds her own. I did see it in 3D and it was ok. Strong sexual content and gory scenes.

‘Non-Stop’ Movie Review

Non stop banner

This is another thrilling ride for all Liam Neeson fans. There’s drama 30,000 miles up in the sky where there’s a killer running rampant on the plane. There’s a good thrill ride in the last 20 minutes of the film. Overall, it’s another winner for Liam in a role that he portrays well. By the way, our newest Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o has a very small role; the director of this film said he had no idea she had filmed an Oscar winning performance in ’12 Years A Slave’ when she filmed this movie.

‘Repentance’ Movie Review

Repentance

Here’s a pretty good ensemble cast in a storyline that’s pretty predictable. Of course, Forest Whitaker gives a great performance of a sick yet deranged man who needs to take his meds (he usually does very well playing these types of roles). He’s on a journey to get closure from a situation that haunts him. Mike Epps takes on another serious role that doesn’t go over too well. Anthony Mackie holds his own as usual. If there was better editing the movie wouldn’t have been so predictable and would have been better. There are a few hard to watch torture scenes; withcraft type scenes as well that reminded me of ‘Beloved’. Based on the film “The Gypsy and the Gury”.
