‘A Most Wanted Man’ Movie Review

A most wanted man banner

Most will be drawn to see one of the last films of a great actor….Philip Seymour Hoffman. He doesn’t disappoint in this intense thriller yet the storyline is slow. The potential of international espionage is the whole plot of the movie. There’s an unexpected twist at the end that displays Hoffman’s great acting ability.

‘Wish I Was Here’ Movie Review

wish I was Here banner

Ultimately, a heartwarming story that also has a sub-storyline. The main character is trying to figure out his life all with a wife and children school aged. His father is sick (portrayed by Mandy Patinkin) and his illness builds his adults sons characters. A really small cameo by well loved television actor James Avery (Uncle Phil from “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air). I will say that there are a few “strange” space suit scenes the main character envisions (lol).

‘And So It Goes’ Movie Review

And so it goes banner bmp

Overall this is a heartwarming story about an aging man that is bitter because the loves in his life are no longer there (his wife passed away and his son was leading a very wayward lifestyle). He finds out that he has a granddaughter and it changes his life (initially he fought it) for the better. A good feel good movie. Nice acting cameo scene with Frankie Valli. It was also good to see Rob Reiner back on the big screen (small role); he also directed and produced the film.

P.S. I think the #DuckDynasty family must know someone at the Studio etc… a few references/video about them in the movie (I do enjoy their reality show).

‘Hercules’ Movie Review

hercules banner

This is an ALL familiar character via television shows and movies over the decades. What’s different that made me like it? Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. The Rock) was a believable mythological god and he brought his own elements into this popular character. The storyline seems quite familiar yet it’s presented differently. The 3D and the epic battle scenes are great!

‘Lucy’ Movie Review

Lucy banner

A portion of this movie is fast action then it shifts to totally sci-fi. Since I’m a fan of both genres the blending didn’t bother me (yet I’ve heard from many that didn’t like it). When you hear about a Scarlett Johansson film combined with Luc Besson as the Director, then it isn’t wrong to expect high octane action (only). I thought the storyline was interesting and it kept my attention. This may not be a film for everyone especially if you’re not into Sci-Fi.

‘Planes: Fire & Rescue’ Movie Review

Planes banner

This is the sequel to ‘Planes’ yet it’s actually a stand alone movie on it’s own considering the storyline. Our fave planes (and new ones) are back with laughs throughout the movie amongst them all. Children and the young at heart will love the movie. I saw it in 3D and it was good yet the 2D experience is just as enjoyable (to save a few bucks). Great ensemble cast of voices!

‘Sex Tape’ Movie Review

Sex Tape

A couples “sexual fantasy” good idea goes awry is what this film is about. Funny and a few laugh out loud moments. Good casting as the characters do have chemistry. Definitely not for children; Cameron has her first (and second) on screen nude bottom scenes. The “tape” is finally shown at the end of the movie.

‘The Purge: Anarchy’ Movie Review

The Purge

After watching the first movie in this franchise just weeks ago on cable I really didn’t expect much from the sequel. This is a sequel winner as the storyline behind the initial premise of the film kept my attention. Yes, expect lots of killing yet now the franchise is an action film with a cast (not sure if each movie will have a totally new cast minus one, as this one does) that you root for. Those that liked the first will definitely be pleased with this one. Shout out for one of my fave actors Michael K. Wiliams (Omar from “The Wire”). I’m not a fan of “horror” genre movies yet I didn’t find this movie to be scary.

‘Begin Again’ Movie Review

Wow, great music throughout and a good storyline well acted. I was pleasantly surprised to see Adam Levine co-starring (I hadn’t read much about the film). The storyline isn’t deep yet I was engaged the entire time. CeeLo Green has a really small cameo.

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Movie Review

Dawn of the POA banner 2

I will say I enjoyed the 2nd film of this new franchise better than the first. The 3D special effects were great and so is the cinematography. The storyline is lackluster and somewhat predictable. I did like that they tied the first film into this one. Overall, I’ll say Hollywood still hasn’t made a really good and/or even great “ape” movie since the original old-school films of the late 60’s and 70’s. I love watching those old films because the apes had more personality and I miss seeing the great makeup and costumes of the actors portraying the apes. I will give the 2001 P.O.T.A. movie starring Mark Wahlberg an honorable mention.
