‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’

Straight to the point, I’m hoping Mockingjay Pt. 2 is MUCH better. The plot is slow and there’s not enough action scenes to hold your attention (well, mine anyway). A little humor along the way to try and bring you in. Having not read any of the books, it’s obvious pt. 1 is setting up pt. 2 and let’s hope it revives this franchise. It was good seeing another “Game of Thrones” cast member on the big screen…Natalie Dormer.

‘Dumb and Dumber To’ Movie Review

Quick and to the point…this movie is what fans want it to be, dumb and corny humor throughout the movie. I was surprised to see Mama June (Honey boo boo’s mama) in the movie…very small role (with that family’s recent turmoil, I’m not surprised her name hasn’t been associated with the movie).

‘Interstellar’ Movie Review

Interstellar banner

I’m a sci-fi fan, therefore, I enjoyed the ride. I saw it in IMAX and what a stunning film to watch in that format. The storyline will hold your attention…and in the last half hour it really soars into total “sci-fi”, lol. The last half hour could throw you off if this is not your type of genre. I was surprised to see Matt Damon…I didn’t know he was in the movie. IMO, a much better film than ‘Gravity’.  You may want to Google to read about the six different formats the movie is being shown in.  In the end, I selected IMAX.

‘Beyond the Lights’ Movie Review

Beyond the lights banner

Gina Prince-Bythewood is the Director and writer of this film. Her most popular film released 14 years ago was the now classic ‘Love and Basketball’. I’m not comparing the films because they stand on their own merit. I feel that Nate and Gugu’s characters have great chemistry and overall the film has a great cast. I totally enjoyed the music and the journey of this love story. Gina is also the writer/director of ‘Secret Life of the Bees’.  BTW, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, was last seen on the big screen this year in ‘Belle’. Several cameos by well known celebrities (background shots at awards ceremonies).

‘Big Hero 6’ Movie Review

Big Hero 6

Well here’s an animated movie that in my opinion is demographically targeted towards “boys/men” 🙂 Don’t get me wrong, there’s humor and the special effects are beautiful! The overall storyline is very geared towards to males yet will keep a general interest in females. I’m glad I saw it yet it wasn’t what I expected (not knowing anything about Big Hero 6 before this movie). Disney doesn’t disappoint yet there’s a target audience of the male persuasion. I did see it in 3D yet I can’t recommend paying the extra…I really don’t remember anything spectacular in 3D. BTW, I totally enjoyed ‘Wreck it Ralph’ which may have been targeted towards males yet was received by females alike.

‘Before I Go To Sleep’ Movie Review

Before I go to sleep

Here’s one you can skip or you will risk going to sleep watching it. The genre is listed as a thriller yet I wasn’t thrilled with the movie. Slow and it’s not a good storyline. The premise is about a woman who has amnesia from a traumatic situation. Not all the details of the characters are explained as to how they connect to her. There are some violent scenes which cause her to start to remember what happened to her.

‘Nightcrawler’ Movie Review

NIghtcrawler banner pic Overall a great role for Jake Gyllenhaal and well acted on his part. His character IMO is narcissistic and psychotic. He starts off as a desperate indigent who can be violent (fighting policemen). He’s a thief; along the way he develops great interest in filming violent scenes that can be a cash cow for him. His obsession for the almighty dollar, his narcissism and psychotic tendencies will spare no ones life if you get in his way.
