‘Trumbo’ Movie Review

trumbo banner

This movie is based on a true story and book of the same name. Essentially, one of the best screenwriters in history (and other artists) was jailed for their political views. Mr. Trumbo was an interesting person to say the least; after being black balled in Hollywood he had to write scripts using shadow writer names. I did like this movie and I won’t be surprised hearing about a few Oscar nominations from this stellar ensemble cast.

‘Victor Frankenstein’ Movie Review

Victor F banner

I guess we can always expect to see a new Frankenstein movie with a new perspective (from Igor) of how he came to be. I guess there’s the back story of Frankenstein’s brother and how obsessed he became to resurrect his brother in this film. Otherwise, this is a repeated story that the big screen didn’t need.

‘Creed’ Movie Review

I can’t say I’m a hater or lover of the ever so popular #Rocky franchise. I remember for the most part the biggest scenes in a few of the movies. Much to my surprise this new addition to the franchise, is a winner in my opinion. I became a fast fan of Michael B. Jordan after his great performance in ‘Fruitvale Station’ and previous work on ‘The Wire’ and ‘All My Children’. Everything worked and clicked in this movie.

‘The Good Dinosaur’ Movie Review

I was really excited about this animated film coming to theatres and overall I liked it. I will say that’s it’s slow for an animated film because there are scenes with little talking. I saw it in 3D and I’d say it wasn’t really necessary.

‘Suffragette’ Movie Review

Suffragette banner

This movie is, of course, based on a true story of our fore-mothers who marched and became rebels for equality of women. It was really horrible when women had no rights and had to fight for everything. Carey gives a stellar performance as Maud Watts (I wouldn’t be surprised with an Oscar nomination; she also does well in period movies). Now, I would be surprised if Meryl gets an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Emmeline Pankhurst. The role is quite small yet Pankhurst was the rebel leader. Great acting and story well told. Immediately after the movie, there’s a scroll of countries showing when women gained equal rights…astonishing on years the rights were made lawful and shocking on the 2015 country addition.

‘Spotlight’ Movie Review

Based on events of a true story this films helms a great ensemble cast who deliver stellar performances. The stand out actor in my opinion is Mark Ruffalo who may garner an Oscar nomination perhaps in the supporting category. The storyline is staggering on what happened to thousands of victims from Catholic priests and how the Catholic hierarchy hid the crimes.

‘Secret in Their Eyes’ Movie Review

Secret in their Eyes banner

Overall, this is a pretty good mystery/thriller movie. There are a few scenes where the physical violence is intense and unexpected. The acting is good and I enjoyed seeing Julia and Chiwetel in a different type of role. There’s a twist to the ending that I wasn’t expecting.

Well, if you’re looking for a raunchy and ratchet movie with a Christmas theme, then this is the movie. I laughed yet I didn’t think the ratchetness would be so much. Miley Cyrus’ appearance was a funny surprise.

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ Movie Review

Hunger Games MJ 2 banner pic

The final installment is in theatres now and Mockingjay 2 didn’t disappoint. I was truly bored with M.J. 1 and had hoped for a better movie to end this franchise. I didn’t read the books but I’ve seen all of the movies. There’s some great action scenes and the storyline returned to what I have enjoyed minus M.J. 1. IMAX is always great and I really enjoyed it in that format. Once again, I enjoyed seeing another #GOT actor on the big screen, Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth). My fave of the franchise was the second movie, ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’.

‘The 33’ Movie Review

The 33 movie

Based on a true story from 2010 when 33 miners were trapped underground for 69 days. I knew all 33 were rescued yet I enjoyed learning the story of what happened. There’s a kinda cheesy dream scene mid-way, lol, overall this is an inspiring film that may make you cry (I shed a few tears). There’s a great end credit scene of the real miners being shown and showing their continued brotherhood with each other. The credits state that after a law suit, none of the miners ever received any compensation for what they went through from the negligence of the Mine owner. I hope they receive something from this film.
