‘Suffragette’ Movie Review

This movie is, of course, based on a true story of our fore-mothers who marched and became rebels for equality of women. It was really horrible when women had no rights and had to fight for everything. Carey gives a stellar performance as Maud Watts (I wouldn’t be surprised with an Oscar nomination; she also does well in period movies). Now, I would be surprised if Meryl gets an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Emmeline Pankhurst. The role is quite small yet Pankhurst was the rebel leader. Great acting and story well told. Immediately after the movie, there’s a scroll of countries showing when women gained equal rights…astonishing on years the rights were made lawful and shocking on the 2015 country addition.

‘Spotlight’ Movie Review

Based on events of a true story this films helms a great ensemble cast who deliver stellar performances. The stand out actor in my opinion is Mark Ruffalo who may garner an Oscar nomination perhaps in the supporting category. The storyline is staggering on what happened to thousands of victims from Catholic priests and how the Catholic hierarchy hid the crimes.

‘Secret in Their Eyes’ Movie Review

Overall, this is a pretty good mystery/thriller movie. There are a few scenes where the physical violence is intense and unexpected. The acting is good and I enjoyed seeing Julia and Chiwetel in a different type of role. There’s a twist to the ending that I wasn’t expecting.

‘The Night Before’ Movie Review

Well, if you’re looking for a raunchy and ratchet movie with a Christmas theme, then this is the movie. I laughed yet I didn’t think the ratchetness would be so much. Miley Cyrus’ appearance was a funny surprise.

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ Movie Review

Hunger Games MJ 2 banner pic

The final installment is in theatres now and Mockingjay 2 didn’t disappoint. I was truly bored with M.J. 1 and had hoped for a better movie to end this franchise. I didn’t read the books but I’ve seen all of the movies. There’s some great action scenes and the storyline returned to what I have enjoyed minus M.J. 1. IMAX is always great and I really enjoyed it in that format. Once again, I enjoyed seeing another #GOT actor on the big screen, Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth). My fave of the franchise was the second movie, ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’.
