‘Elvis & Nixon’ Movie Review

Elvis and Nixon poster pic

This is actually a true story. Who would have ever thought the King of rock and roll would want to meet the President of the United States. Well, Elvis did. There are so many laughs in this movie and that’s what will keep you entertained. It was even funny to me seeing Nixon’s performance by Spacey…laughable out loud.

‘A Hologram for the King’ Movie Review

Hologram poster pic

Here’s a little independent movie that Tom Hanks stars in. The storyline is simple and there are just a few co-stars yet there’s a heartwarming core with laughs and good acting. Tom’s character travels to another continent in search of a buyer of his invention and there he finds a new source of wealth and love.

‘Miles Ahead’ Movie Review

Miles Ahead banner

Here’s another legendary music icon on the big screen and other than knowing of the music, I wasn’t aware of Miles’ personal life. This biography shows the dark side of his life…lots of drugs and drama in his life. Overall, I thought Don’s portrayal was good with his voice imitation and the instruments.

‘Nina’ Movie Review

Nina movie

I’m aware of some of Nina Simone’s music yet I’m not aware of her mannerisms so I wasn’t prepared to connect and compare to Zoe’s portrayal of her. It was different seeing Zoe in a real drama role and if she got Ms. Simone’s personality correct, she did a good job. Everything was new to me so I had a really fresh and untainted perspective. The credits showed that Zoe did her own singing and I was impressed. I know Ms. Simone’s family is against this film but if the research of this film is correct, it’s a decent film. Mike Epps gives a great cameo performance of Richard Pryor.

‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’ Movie Review

Huntsman winter war

The 2nd installment in this franchise is a prequel and sequel. A director and no Snow White this time takes this film on a different type of journey with the addition of two new characters added. I head a bad preview yet in the end the movie was decent just not as good as the first one even though I didn’t think Kristen Stewart added anything great to it. I hope this film gets a 3rd try at the box office because I like films in this genre and all of the lead actors did a great job but they should return the first films director (not Snow White or at least Kristen portraying her).

‘The Jungle Book’ Movie Review

Jungle book banner 1

What a great remake of a classic! I totally enjoyed this movie. The lush colors and great cgi of the animals was fascinating to watch to say the least. I saw it in IMAX 3D so it was definitely a great movie watching experience. This movie is fun for all yet younger children may find a few scenes a little scary.

‘Criminal’ Movie Review

Criminal 2016 banner

If you can handle very violent scenes, then that’s the worst of this movie. The storyline I thought could have been better especially with such a great ensemble cast. The violent scenes and small amount of action keeps the movie going. This movie initially somewhat reminded me of ‘Face Off’…different but not so much. Not bad but it could have been better.

‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ Movie Review

Barbershop banner

Well, it’s been twelve years since the last movie in this franchise hit the big screen…and it’s a good add. Lots of laughs occur in the barber shop with lots of discussion on current topics especially on inner cities. All the faves are back with lots of familiar faces. I’d say it’s worth checking out if you liked either of the other two films. I thought there was a significant amount of profanity for a PG 13 film.

‘Eye in the Sky’ Movie Review

Eye_in_the_Sky_2015_film_poster

The consequences of war is really what this movie is about. Unfortunately, innocent bystanders get in the middle of good government trying to stop terrorist acts. The storyline is quite engaging and emotional and shows the steps of government it sometimes takes to stop terrorists (even a little humor) but in the end a beautiful little girl’s life is put at risk to stop evil. A very sad ending. I believe this is Alan Rickman’s last film. Another #GOT regular is in this film, Iain Glen.

‘Demolition’ Movie Review

Jake Gyllenhaal delves into another eccentric character. The movie isn’t great but it’s not bad. I thought it was going to be about a man grieving the loss of his wife and actually it was but he does it in a very eccentric way.
