Ad Astra = to the stars; and that they did! I love sci-fi movies although this one is not defined as so. Picturesque yes, yet a big bore. The premise is for an astronaut to find out if his dad survived a space mission. I saw it in the IMAX format.

Quentin Tarantino movies can be a hit or miss since the Kill Bill movies, and this one is a miss for me. Yes, there’s lot of corny humor yet the gory fight scenes made me squirm (yes Kill Bill was gory but just different all together and maybe because of “who” did the gory scenes). Wasn’t my type of movie.

The love story of an intelligence officer and a French resistance fighter is begins in battle. The question is, will the love last? Is there a spy in the house? Overall the storyline is good and leaves you guessing until the end.

Gory, intense, great acting are all components of a really good war movie depicted about World War II. A brave five man team take on hundreds of enemy soldiers…the team is led by courageous Wardaddy (Brad Pitt). I expect to see him get an Oscar nomination as he does a great job in this role.

It’s only to be expected that there are very intense scenes in this film, and that’s correct. This is a true story based on the book “Twelve Years a Slave” by Solomon Northup who is a free black man from upstate New York and is abducted and sold into slavery. Chiwetel Ejiofor gives a great performance as Solomon as do most of the actors in this film. There are scenes that are hard to watch so keep that in mind before viewing it.

I’m not a horror movie fan even with a PG-13 rating, yet this film is a winner for me. Decent zombie storyline with enough jumpy horror moments and a some humor. Brad and the Zombies pulled it off for a Summer time movie flick.
