‘The High Note’ Movie Review (streaming)

Originally set to open in theatres you can find ‘The High Note’ streaming on various platforms. The premise is a seasoned vocalist who wants to reboot her career with new music yet her label isn’t on board for it. The back story is her assistant wanting to become a music producer. She finds a great singer yet there’s some drama. From what I’ve read, Tracee does her own vocals and it’s not bad. Overall I enjoyed all of the music.

‘Fist Fight’ Movie Review

If you want to laugh at corny, lewd and ridiculous lines, then this is the movie for you. There’s nothing heavy to deal with in the storyline. Laugh out loud jokes…especially a school talent show scene that was really funny!!!! There will probably be a sequel as long as this one makes a little money. P.S. I didn’t like the premise or execution of teachers fighting.

‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’ Movie Review

Well, I’m new to this franchise. This is the first of the three that I’ve seen (I’ll try and catch the other two soon). If you want high impact action scenes, then this is the film for you. The storyline isn’t deep yet this is a reprisal for Vin so fans are thrilled that he’s back. Essentially, you have bad guys vs. good/bad guys and maybe a new team created. Shout out to Rory McCann who is “The Hound” on G.O.T. I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was great. #Detroiters, there’s a surprise for you!  A little cheesy but it is big screen entertainment. There should definitely be another film.

‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ Movie Review

Well, it’s been twelve years since the last movie in this franchise hit the big screen…and it’s a good add. Lots of laughs occur in the barber shop with lots of discussion on current topics especially on inner cities. All the faves are back with lots of familiar faces. I’d say it’s worth checking out if you liked either of the other two films. I thought there was a significant amount of profanity for a PG 13 film.

‘Ride Along 2’ Movie Review

Sometimes sequels can be just as good as the original movie or better, I’d say I like them equally yet there are more laughs and more action scenes. There are “video game” scenes that are hilarious.

’22 Jump Street’ Movie Review

I’m not saying ’22 Jump Street’ is a bad movie and I’m not saying it’s not a good movie either. Mind you there are funny scenes and for the most part it held my attention yet it isn’t as good/funny as the first one. The movie pokes fun at itself and there’s an unexpected reveal that I didn’t expect that is funny. Overall, it’s just ok. I would have appreciated more original television series cameos.

‘Ride Along’ Movie Review

A definite attempt to start a new comic duo that are policemen. For me there are a few laugh out loud moments in this mediocre storyline. I totally have enjoyed past Will Packer produced movies, as well as, movies Tim Story has directed (they are definitely a dynamic duo behind the scenes) yet this film falls short with the storyline that has a great cast (Kevin Hart, Ice Cube, Tika Sumpter, John Leguizamo). If there’s a sequel, let’s hope for a better script. If you’re looking to have a movie outing for some laughs, catch this movie…don’t expect anything more. BTW, it was #1 at the box office last weekend defying critics bad rating of it. 2014 seems to be the year of Kevin Hart films….a year his fans have been waiting for.
