‘Dark Phoenix’ Movie Review

Dark Phoe

Now, as a stand alone film, I enjoyed it, except that one character is killed off and it doesn’t make sense since the earlier X-Men films aged the characters (of, course that’s how Fox Studios messed up everything Marvel).  There’s lots of action with a storyline that’s engaging enough.  NO end credit scenes (because it wasn’t in the Marvel/Disney family yet when it was filmed).  Now that Disney has this franchise, I see everything getting better and hopefully merging with everything else Marvel.  The August 2019 release of The Mutants is the last of these characters until again, Disney merges them.  I saw it in Dolby and it was great.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Movie Review

Alien Covenant banner

This movie is sort of a nostalgic spoof of the original film from 1979.  The Alien is updated in a retro feeling movie yet the Alien(s) are very cgi looking unlike the scary Aliens in the classic.  The movie kept my interest and wasn’t that scary.  There is “no” end credit scene.  It was great in IMAX.

‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie Review

assasin-creed-banner

I am totally unfamiliar with the game. With that being said, I viewed this movie as a novice and am reviewing it based on the movie only (no comparison to the game etc…). I totally enjoyed the mythical scenes. I did not like the present day scenes but maybe they were needed to build the story as the assassins move forward. I saw it in Real D 3D and it was pretty good.

‘The Light Between Oceans’ Movie Review

the-light-between-oceans

What an engaging storyline! When you think you have it figured out then there’s another twist. The love of a child is unbearable no matter the situation. Great acting and I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple movie award nominations come about.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Movie Review

Xmen a banner 2

This is pretty much another Marvel superhero movie…that’s fine because I give it a thumbs up! It’s a little long because the first hour builds up the storyline. Some familiar faces and new faces as the X-Men…it’s always fun to see the characters younger (of course, one fave makes a cameo at his current age). I saw it in RealD 3D and it was pretty good. Don’t forget…stay until the screen turns BLACK…there’s an end credit scene (which I really didn’t get or like, lol). Sophie Turner does a great job as a young Jean (I’m always happy to see #GOT actors on the big screen).

‘Steve Jobs’ Movie Review

Steve Jobs banner

This is a hard quick read movie review after doing some research on Mr. Jobs. I will say this film is well acted. Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet give great performances (maybe Oscar worthy). Not knowing much about Steve Jobs personal life was an interesting pull to the storyline. There’s lots of computer jargon that could go over your head. The storyline revolves around three of Jobs’ well known product launch unveilings. Unfortunately, the movie isn’t dated to more recent product developments (iphone, ipad etc…). I did find this man’s life to be interesting and worth learning more about. This film is depicted from a book by Walter Issacson (Jobs’ person biographer) yet Jobs’ wife/family do not give a seal of approval of this film and actually contacted a couple of actors and asked them to not accept the role. Since this is the 2nd film about Jobs’ in the last couple of years I’m sure that one day his family will finally approve a depiction/storyline that they want on the big screen.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Movie Review

XMen

NOTE: AS WITH “ALL” MARVEL MOVIES – DON’T FORGET TO WAIT UNTIL THE END CREDIT SCENE RUNS AT THE END OF ALL THE CREDITS….WAIT UNTIL THE SCREEN TURNS BLACK.

Ok, I could have used a total X-Men movie refresher to understand and keep up with this movie. I had forgotten a lot of the characters. If you’re a diehard X-men fan, you’ll enjoy seeing most if not all characters in one movie, lol. I did really enjoy the storyline and the nostalgic look back to the 1970’s. There’s humor amongst the characters and lots of action. I did see the film in 3D and I enjoyed it. Not a lot of the movie is in 3D but when it kicks in it’s worth it. I think this film definitely fits into the Summer popcorn movie guide. Enjoy! Another well done #Marvel film.

’12 Years a Slave’ Movie Review

12 years banner

It’s only to be expected that there are very intense scenes in this film, and that’s correct. This is a true story based on the book “Twelve Years a Slave” by Solomon Northup who is a free black man from upstate New York and is abducted and sold into slavery. Chiwetel Ejiofor gives a great performance as Solomon as do most of the actors in this film. There are scenes that are hard to watch so keep that in mind before viewing it.
