So, I had no expectations for this movie although I grew up playing with barbie dolls. The film is not horrible and I was surprised that once the storyline came out of the Barbie world and was in a reality world, there were superficial topics that were addressed. I saw this Thursday and am just posting my review; surprisingly Barbie is the #1 film this weekend with a whopping $155 million box office, who would have thought??? Lol. I didn’t wait to see if there were end credits.
Disney does it right with this live action remake! The expected lush colors and whimsical scenes are all there to dazzle your eyes. I actually don’t recall if I’ve ever completely seen the original animated movie. Halle does a great job of the reinvisioning of the character and Disney includes all cultures. There are a few dark scenes so the littles may close their eyes a couple times. I saw it in IMAX and it was great; I may see it again in 3D.
This is and could have just aired on the Hallmark channel, IJS. Love, lost, and learning to love again is the storyline. Definitely a chick flick. I didn’t know beforehand that Celine Dion was actually a “character” in the movie
